Dad bought me my first car shortly after I got my driver’s license. It was an old car that was older than I was. Strictly speaking it wasn’t a dream car. It was green, not my favorite color. It didn’t had air conditioner (it was hot summer at the time).

But... it was mine! My first car! My very own car!

When dad gave me my very first driving lesson, before I started a lesson with a driving instructor, I told him that I’d drive him to places when I get my first car.

That was what I did. It wasn’t the first time he was in the passenger seat when I was the driver, but it was different having him as my first passenger in my first car.

The car was driven around local streets. We visited the quiet street where he gave me my very first driving lesson. We laughed at how many times the car stalled before it was finally took off. It was embarrassing for me to admit that it took me the longest time trying to master the timing of releasing the clutch and pressing the accelerator. The drive was so much smoother that evening.

Even though the car was old, it was in excellent condition. Dad spent a lot of time maintaining and improving the car. I enjoy the time spent with him chit-chatting while watching him doing works on it, even though I tried to I never learned about car engines and what they do.

Dad can no longer working on cars as modern day car engines are getting more complex. However I still enjoy having him as my passenger.
